Savannah Rivka
Savannah Rivka is a folklorist who skillfully blends the art of historically and culturally informed storytelling with music for the perfect mix of “edutainment.” She has experience performing at international festivals in the United States and Europe with indie bands, folk ensembles, and circus acts. She recently launched a project titled Adventure Scholar that integrates traditional education and artistically innovative models designed to reveal and explore the intersectionalities of the human experience. These subjects will be explored through a podcast and shared through various art mediums which can be found on the Adventure Scholar website and social media pages. Please join this journey of discovery and enrichment to experience the true spirit of an adventure scholar; education through inspiration.
As a person of European descent, Savannah Rivka has emersed herself in the culture and folklore of her ancestors. Prior to the pandemic, she spent 3 years living, working, researching, and singing with people in various countries throughout Europe.
Savannah Rivka has connected with numerous folk performers throughout the world. While in Tartu Estonia she became a regular at the monthly folk dance and learned traditional songs to perform with local musicians.
Through connections with local folk ensembles in the United States Savannah Rivka learned Balkan folk music. She has visited Bulgaria on multiple occasions to perform in international folk festivals and learn from singers in the villages. In this image, a Russian and Balkan studies colleague dressed her in a traditional Bulgarian wedding gown during a visit to the village of Draginovo.
Adventure Scholar is comprised of a team of experienced speakers, performers, and educators dedicated to engaging in processes of human and societal development through teaching subjects related to science, folklore, expressive arts, and cultural heritage. Our approach integrates traditional and innovative models designed to reveal and explore the intersectionalities of the human experience. This project was born out of a community effort for engaging in a local grassroots approach while maintaining a globally-minded vision. The core members of this project all have roots in Colorado, yet have collectively engaged with projects and networks spanning the United States, Mexico, parts of Europe, and Japan. We offer public speaking, workshops, a podcast, and folk-inspired educational performances through our speaker’s bureau.
