
Mia Donata Rocchio
Mia Donata Rocchio is a Philadelphia based theatre-maker, performer, movement coach and educator. In addition to her regional theatre work as an actor, Mia has created, produced and performed original full length productions, as well serving in directorial/consultant roles with Almanac Dance Circus Theatre, Jillian Jetton and Think Tank Theatre Company. Mia is the recipient of a 2018 Warren Oats Award, a Graduate Assistantship Award (2015), two arts and culture awards, funded by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation (2008 and 2017), and a Dragon's Egg Studio residency where she debuted original material at The Eugene O’Neil Theatre Center. Mia was thrilled to be apart of the directorial team for Almanac’s production, XOXO MOONGIRL which received the 2019 Barrymore award for Best Choreography/Movement.
Mia is deeply interested in the body as an artistic medium and the power of non-verbal communication within storytelling. She received the opportunity to present her research at the 2017 OSCLG conference in Chicago which then fueled her MFA thesis entitled, Willpower Through Physical Connectivity. Mia’s work and movement research aims to use story as the technical fabric within theatrical creation and physicality as the emotional.
Mia received her MFA in performance from the University of Louisville and her BFA in acting from the University of Rhode Island.
